Nurses, hospitals engage in joint bargaining

Representatives of the Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA), Minnesota Hospital and Healthcare Partnership (MHHP) and hospital officials from the seven metropolitan systems have agreed to meet jointly to negotiate major economic issues common to all bargaining tables.

Minnesotans rally for adequate education funding

Nearly 3,000 parents, students and teachers rallied on the steps of the State Capitol to show their support for public education, Saturday, May 5. Undeterred by gray skies, cold winds and a nasty drizzle, they came from Duluth and Rochester, Pequot Lakes and St. Paul, Mankato and Minneapolis, to urge legislators to support Minnesota schools with adequate funding.

Mayo hospital workers ratify contract

Members of Hotel, Hospital, Restaurant and Tavern Employees Union Local 21 voted overwhelmingly to ratify a contract with Albert Lea Medical Center/Mayo Health System on April 30 that provides major changes in wages and health care.

Unions or not, May Day march goes on

Hardly anyone from organized labor showed up, but an amusingly diverse coalition of groups celebrated International Workers Day with a free-spirited and peaceful May Day march through downtown.

Education groups to rally May 5 for more state funding

Saying that school districts will have to eliminate classes, services and thousands of teachers and other employees, the Alliance for Student Achievement steps up its campaign for sufficient public education funding with a rally at noon May 5 at the Capitol.
