Postal employees still awaiting new contracts

Health fears aren’t the only issues frustrating postal employees. Workers in three unions – the American Postal Workers Union, National Postal Mail Handlers Union, and National Rural Letter Carriers Association – have been without contracts for nearly a year. The contract for a fourth union – the National Association of Letter Carriers – expires next week.

Federal judge tosses Bush ban on project labor agreements

In what labor called ‘a great and sweeping victory’ for construction workers, their ability to gain living wages and their unions, a federal judge on Nov. 6 threw out President George W. Bush’s ban on future project labor agreements on federally funded construction contracts.

Hennepin County workers call for fair contract

Chanting “Fair contract – now!” about 600 Hennepin County employees represented by AFSCME Council 14 rallied outside the government center Thursday. At the noontime event, workers expressed their frustration with the slow pace of contract talks and what they said is lack of responsiveness by the county to their concerns.
