Minneapolis couple to say ‘I do’ at national union convention

A Minneapolis couple will say “I do” before family and thousands of their closest union friends on Sunday, June 23, in Las Vegas. Six thousand delegates and guests to the 35th International Convention of AFSCME, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, will celebrate the marriage of member David Troy and his fiancee Amy Finseth at Bally’s Las Vegas Events Center.

Congress holds hearing on workers’ rights

Workers who have lost their jobs because they tried to organize a union are testifying in Washington, as a major Congressional committee holds the first hearing on workers’ rights issues in 14 years.<

St. Paul unions to rally against sweatshops

The St. Paul Area Trades and Labor Assembly and UNITE!, the Union of Needletrades, Industrial and Textile Employees, are sponsoring an anti-sweatshop rally and protest at Uniforms Unlimited, 189 East 7th Place, St. Paul, at noon Wednesday, June 19.

Speakers Club to discuss ‘Open Source Unionism’

The St. Paul Labor Speakers Club is sponsoring a discussion inspired by Open Source Unionism: A Proposal to American Labor by Richard Freeman of>Harvard University and Joel Rogers of the University of Wisconsin. Hotel union to rally June 18 at Minneapolis Grand

After negotiating for two years with no contract in sight, Hotel Employees & Restaurant Employees Local 17 is again picketing the Minneapolis Grand Hotel. Supporters will join the hotel workers for a rally Tuesday, June 18, at 11:30 a.m. in front of the facility, 615 2nd Ave. S., in downtown Minneapolis.
