Workers remember those who didn?t make it home

Gray, rainy weather added to the somber tone of Workers Memorial Day ceremonies in the Twin Cities Friday.At events outside the Capitol, at MnDOT offices, and at a construction site in Minneapolis, union members and elected officials spoke of the never-ending need to make workplaces safer. Unfortunately, they pointed out, trends are going the other way. Deaths on the job rose in recent years in both the nation and in Minnesota.

AFL-CIO Releases State of the State Report

A new report released April 24 by the AFL-CIO says that Minnesota’s working families are being squeezed by stagnant incomes and soaring costs. Minnesota AFL-CIO President Ray Waldron said this year’s rising fuel costs are likely to negate any pay increases that workers might receive.
