Workers at Seward Community Co-op hope to become the next group of co-op employees to win union recognition. On Wednesday, more than 100 workers and supporters marched to three Seward locations, chanting, “Union Power!”

Lawmakers tackle lack of protections in gig economy

Two congressional Democrats, including one who first raised the alarm two years ago, unveiled legislation for a pilot program on how to give workers in the so-called “gig economy” protections and benefits other workers have.

New worker center opens Thursday in South St. Paul

The Hardman Avenue Workers Center, located at the UFCW Local 1189 hall, will hold a grand opening celebration Thursday, June 8. The center will offer free workshops for people who need assistance or have questions about the immigration process.

Dayton must decide; unions and community groups urge vetoes

The Minnesota AFL-CIO, the labor federation representing unions across the state, joined Education Minnesota in calling on Governor Mark Dayton to veto an education funding bill passed by the Republican-controlled Legislature. Other organizations urged Dayton to veto finance bills that included provisions harmful to immigrants and low-wage workers.
