Mankato-area students learn about construction careers

Nearly 1,000 Mankato-area high school students are participating Tuesday and Wednesday in Construct Tomorrow, an apprentice program of the Mankato Building Trades to provide a hands-on introduction to careers in the skilled building trades.

AFL-CIO delegates join with Black Lives Matter protesters

In an act of powerful solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement, delegates attending the AFL-CIO’s 2017 national convention walked out of the America’s Center Saturday to join local BLM activists who had been refused entry by convention center management. The unions had invited BLM activists to speak.

Forum calls for enforcement of new labor standards

Twin Cities workers, together with national labor experts, called on public officials Wednesday to beef up enforcement of Minneapolis-St. Paul ordinances requiring employers to pay earned sick and safe time and the new Minneapolis minimum wage of $15 an hour.

A Campus Labor Institute offered Saturday, Oct. 21, will feature sessions on worker organizing, history and more. The event runs from 9:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. in the 3M Auditorium of the Carlson School of Management on the West Bank of the university’s Minneapolis campus.
