Documentary about U strike to be shown Thursday

In honor of the first anniversary of the 2003 strike at the University of Minnesota, local unions are sponsoring a showing of “Voices on the Line,” a documentary about the strike. The free showing will be Thursday, Nov. 4, at noon in Room 655 of the Gateway Building, at the intersection of Oak and Washington on the Minneapolis campus.

Neighborhood House holds info sessions

Neighborhood House, which held formal ground?breaking ceremonies Sept. 26 for the new Paul and Sheila Wellstone Center for Community Building, is holding one-hour ?house warming? sessions to explain the agency?s work and how the Wellstone Center will expand its ability to serve the community.

Wellstone documentary premieres Oct. 14

?WELLSTONE!,? a documentary about the lives of the late U.S. Senator Paul Wellstone and his wife, Sheila, premieres Oct. 14 and will be screened in several Minnesota cities. Filmmakers are also hopeful the program will air on national public television and at prestigious film festivals. Read Michael Kuchta’s review of the film.

Writers Union offers workshop on negotiating book contracts

Every year, writers
hungry to see their work in print suffer pitfalls like reduced royalties or signing away rights
because they don’t understand their book contracts. The Twin Cities chapter of the National Writers Union will offer a half-day conference: “NEGOTIATE
LIKE A PRO: What every author should know about book contracts” on Saturday, Oct. 23.
