This photo shows the gap remaining the morning of July 2 between spans extending from the east and west banks of the river. The concrete for the final 7-foot long box girders will be poured in place. The Minnesota Department of Transportation reports that the bridge will open in late September or early October.

The new span replaces the one that fell on Aug. 1, 2007, killing 13 and injuring hundreds of others.
