The AFL-CIO Hurricane Katrina Relief Center in Pearl, Miss., is appealing for specific supplies in bulk for hurricane victims, says federation relief coordinator Judy Parkins.

Needed "as soon as possible" are 200 sets of personal hygiene items -- such as deodorant, toothpaste and brushes, combs and shampoo -- along with 100 sets of cleaning supplies. It also seeks 500 sets of school supplies, such as notebooks, book bags, scissors, paper and pens, and 100 sets each of complete outfits for boys and girls, including everything from underwear and shoes on up.

Mens' and womens' clothing is also in short supply in Mississippi, Parkins said. The center needs 150 complete outfits in all sizes, including shoes and socks. It also seeks a long list of miscellaneous items. All donations can be shipped to The Pearl Worker Center c/o United Association of Pipe Fitters, 1060 Commercial Park Drive, Pearl, Miss., 39208. Cash donations are also welcome.
