The St. Paul Area Trades and Labor Assembly has announced plans to revive that tradition this year – at least among workers east of the Mississippi River.
To celebrate the theme "Labor\'s Role in Our Communities,"union members on Labor Day will march from Como Park Senior High to the State Fair, where they will gather at the House of Labor. Later in the day, union members will participate in the daily in-fair parade.
The festivities will begin at 9 a.m. in the parking lot west of Como High, 740 West Rose Ave. Breakfast will be served, and participants will meet and greet labor\'s community and political supporters.
The 1.75-mile march to the State Fair entrance at Midway Parkway and Snelling Ave. will begin at noon. For people uninterested in marching the entire distance both ways, a shuttle bus will run between the fair and the high school between 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m.
The House of Labor is located on the corner of Dan Patch and Cooper. The in-fair parade will begin at 2 p.m.
Individuals participating in the march will receive complimentary admission to the State Fair and a T-shirt. Cost is $15, payable at the Assembly office at 411 Main St.
For more information, call Linda in the Assembly office at 651-222-3787.
