U workers petition for fair contracts

Members of AFSCME Local 3800 and Teamsters Local 320 presented petitions to the office of University of Minnesota President Kaler on Tuesday, urging the administration to bargain fairly with the unions.

A new Bill of Rights for American workers is born

In a country of “the too rich and the rest of us,” says AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka, we need a new Workers’ Bill of Rights. Fittingly, that was Resolution 1 at the federation’s recently concluded national convention, “a tool,” as Cecil Roberts of the United Mine Workers put it, “to support our organizing and our political work.”

St. Paul school nutrition workers to vote on tentative contract

St. Paul public schools nutrition services workers will vote Thursday on a new tentative contract that raises the wages of the lowest-paid employees, Teamsters Local 320 announced. The union, which had authorized a strike if needed, reached the deal after more than 16 hours of mediation.

Mayo hospital cashiers join union

A group of cashiers at the Saint Marys and Methodist campuses of Mayo Clinic Hospital, employed by Morrison Healthcare, voted unanimously to join SEIU Healthcare Minnesota.
