Building Trades plan rally Nov. 17

Minnesota Building Trades unions intend to demonstrate Nov. 17 against out-of-state contractors bringing out-of-state workers into Minnesota.

The demonstration will take place outside the annual meeting of the Minnesota Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors. ABC is a trade organization of anti-union contractors.

Featured speaker at the annual meeting is Michael Uremovich, CEO of Starcon International, a non-union contractor that is elbowing its way into union refineries. At the Ashland-Marathon refinery in St. Paul Park, Starcon is gaining an increasing share of work, putting 200 union workers out of a job and replacing them with out-of-state workers, Minnesota Building Trades officials say.
