The Lakes & Plains Regional Council of Carpenters and Joiners is partnering with other construction trades for a motorcycle ?Solidarity Ride Against Diabetes? in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
The ride will leave 424 Main St., Deadwood, South Dakota, at 1 p.m. on Aug. 10 and continues winding through Vanocker Canyon, with a water stop scheduled near Nemo. It then proceeds to the Rapid City Labor Temple located at 922 1/2 St. Patrick St. Proceeds from the ride benefit the ?Dollars Against Diabetes? campaign that funds research into the debilitating disease.
?The ride creates public attention and provides opportunity to educate the community about the pride and passion that comes with being a skilled craftsperson and its positive benefits for working families of America,? the union noted.
The Carpenters are asking union locals for a $100 donation and participants for a $20 donation. Participants will receive a 5th Annual Lakes and Plains Sturgis Pin, a T-shirt and a good meal at the end of the ride.
