The contract covers 20,000 workers who provide telecommunications, phone and long distance services in 13 states, including Minnesota.
The vote was 77 percent in favor, the union reported. In St. Paul, members voted 86 percent to support the agreement, CWA Local 7201 said on its website
"The agreement strikes the best possible balance between allowing Qwest to compete in this extremely challenging environment and providing employees with fair wage increases, pension increases, two reasonable health care options and manageable performance expectations," the union said in announcing the tentative agreement on Oct. 11.
The four-year contract includes a 12.5 percent wage increase over four years, a 3 percent pension increase, quality, affordable health care and better language on employee performance measures, the union said.
It also provides "respect and dignity" by establishing a leadership council for union and management "to hear and discuss strategic or systematic issues that impact Network members," the union said.
