CWA reported that 93 percent of Qwest members voted in favor of strike authorization in balloting conducted by CWA local unions.

"The strike authorization vote demonstrates members’ solid support for their bargaining team and their strong determination to achieve a fair settlement with Qwest," said District 7 Vice President Louise Caddell. For a strike to take place, the next step would be for CWA\’s executive board to authorize President Larry Cohen to set a strike date.

"Asking our members to vote on a strike authorization is a normal part of bargaining, and is not an indicator that a strike is imminent," the union noted in a statement released Monday. "It is still our hope that that bargaining process will produce a fair contract that rewards the hard work of CWA members who have contributed to Qwest\’s success."

Critical issues in the bargaining include health care and retirement security, quality jobs and a fair wage increase.
