American Red Cross officials said they are working with their counterparts in Sri Lanka, Indonesia, India, Thailand, Somalia and elsewhere to direct the aid where it is needed most. A top priority is restoring safe drinking water, the organization said.
The Red Cross is taking monetary donations and cannot accept donations of blankets, food, etc., at this time.
