Filmmaker Spike Lee will be the guest speaker at the Minneapolis Community and Technical College's 15th annual ?Celebrate the Dream? tribute Friday, Jan. 15, at 7 p.m. at the Basilica of St. Mary. The event will feature music, a keynote speaker and awards to honor local leaders in the community. It is free and open to the public.
The 15th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday Breakfast, sponsored by the General Mills Foundation and the United Negro College Fund, will be Monday, Jan. 17. The theme of this year?s event is ?Strong Minds, Great Hearts, Ready Hands and True Faith? Remember the Dream.?
The keynote speaker will be Juan Williams, correspondent for National Public Radio and author.
The event starts at 7:30 a.m. at the Minneapolis Convention Center, Ballroom A. Tickets are $30 per person. Organizations can reserve tables of up to 10 seats.

The Saint Paul Trades and Labor Assembly also will sponsor a breakfast on Jan. 17 at 411 Main St. Guy Charles, a professor at the University of Minnesota Law School, will be guest speaker.
Although King is most widely known for his leadership of the civil rights movement, he also was a strong supporter of labor unions. It was because of his support for striking sanitation workers that he was in Memphis, Tenn., in April 1968, when he was assassinated.
A live hook-up will broadcast events from the simultaneous celebration at the Minneapolis Convention Center. This year?s St. Paul event begins with a continental breakfast at 7 a.m. Admission is free. Events are scheduled to conclude in time to join the annual march from Central High School to Concordia University.
