Union members visiting the popular Game Fair in Anoka County that
begins Friday should be sure to stop by the booth hosted by the Minneapolis
Central Labor Union Council (CLUC) and local unions. You¹ll find free
give-aways for union members and a chance to enter a drawing to win one of
three union-made firearms. This is the third year for the booth, an outreach
effort growing from the work of the CLUC¹s North Suburban Advisory
Committee.
Game Fair, now in its 26th year, draws more than 50,000 visitors each year
for a six-day celebration of hunting and fishing. This year¹s Game Fair runs
Friday-Sunday, August 10-12 and Friday-Sunday, August 17-19 amid the woods
and water of the Armstrong Kennel Ranch in Ramsey. Game Fair features more
than 300 exhibitors and vendors as well as participatory activities for all
ages.
"We have more exhibitors this year and more activities," said Game Fair¹s
Frank Delaney. "This whole fair has grown considerably. This year is the
largest ever by far."
The Lakes & Plains Regional Council of Carpenters will be back for a second
year at Game Fair with a booth and a fundraiser for Pheasants Forever. Union
apprentices will help kids build a bird-house. Donations from parents for
the bird house will be matched by the Minnesota Department of Natural
Resources to help fund acquisition and preservation of wetlands for wildlife
One Game Fair highlight: Talk radio host Ed Schultz will broadcast his
nationally syndicated program from the CLUC booth Friday, August 17 from 11
a.m. to 2 p.m. (Schultz also will broadcast his local show from 8:30 a.m. to
10:30 a.m.)
In addition to give-aways like fishing bobbers and other items at the CLUC
booth, visitors will find information and displays about union apprentice
programs.
