Under Bush-Coleman, American workers have seen their jobs move overseas, witnessed a mounting federal deficit and are paying more for gasoline and health care, Franken said.
"It\'s time to rebuild our infrastructure, it\'s time to rebuild our middle class," he said.
Franken said he would revitalize the U.S. economy through a new stimulus plan to rebuild bridges, roads and other infrastructure and through proposals to provide support for working families – such as tax credits for child care and for taking care of elderly parents.
Franken also addressed the controversy surrounding commercials being aired "by a Norm Coleman front group," that accuse Franken of opposing worker privacy and secret ballot elections. Franken said Coleman and the organizations running the ads are lying about his positions and misrepresenting the Employee Free Choice Act.
EFCA would strengthen worker rights by giving workers the choice of a card-check process or a secret ballot election when deciding whether to form a union.
"I support the Employee Free Choice Act because our labor movement built the middle class and I\'m tired of a political culture in this country that is hostile to labor," Franken said to loud applause.
"It\'s time to elect people that are pro-labor."

Franken, who last month won the DFL endorsement, hopes to unseat first-term Republican Norm Coleman. In a speech to the Building Trades, Franken said Coleman and President George W. Bush have "sold out Minnesota families to corporate interests" and "they need to be held accountable."
