Saturday, May 14, is the date for the National Association of Letter Carriers’ annual “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive.
This is the largest one-day food drive in the nation, supplying local foodshelves across the United States with non-perishable food items.
Participating is easy: just put out a bag of food near your mailbox the morning of May 14 and your letter carrier will pick it up.
“The food that we get only lasts half the year — even a couple of cans will help,” said Michelle Guzman, Blaine, member of NALC Branch 9 who is helping to coordinate this year’s food drive.
New this year: The United Food and Commercial Workers’ international union has become a sponsor of the “Stamp Out Hunger” food drive.
In the Minneapolis area, UFCW Local 653 is getting involved by partnering with Cub Foods to print 100,000 paper grocery bags for the food drive. NALC members will distribute the bags along their mail routes in the days leading up to the May 14 food drive.
The bags will feature the logos of UFCW Local 653 and Cub Foods and solicit donations for the food drive.
You also can donate online from April 30 through May 18 and Land O’Lakes will match your gift, up to a total of $25,000. To donate online, visit this website.
