Across Minnesota and across the country, thousands of people will gather Saturday, Oct. 25, to commemorate the legacy of U.S. Senator Paul Wellstone on ?Wellstone World Music Day.?
Saturday is the first anniversary of the airplane crash that took the lives of Wellstone, his wife, Sheila; daughter, Marcia; aides Mary McEvoy, Tom Lapic and Will McLaughlin; and pilots Richard Conry and Michael Guess.
Wellstone World Music Day is an idea that started with an e-mail essay by Twin Cities music critic Jim Walsh. He sent it to a few friends at the beginning of August and it has since been forwarded all over Minnesota, the country and the world.
The essay suggests that ?on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2003, every piece of music, from orchestras to shower sings, superstars to buskers, will be an expression of that loss and a celebration of that life.?
