Immigrant Freedom Ride film debuts Friday

A documentary about the 2003 Immigrant Workers Freedom Ride will debut Friday, Sept. 3, at a special program sponsored by Intermedia Arts and the Loft Literary Center.

Produced and filmed by Randy Croce and Howard Kling, videographers at the University of Minnesota Labor Education Service, the documentary captures the experience of Minnesota immigrants who traveled cross-country by bus as part of a national campaign to raise awareness of immigrant issues.

The evening?s events, under the theme ?The New Americans: Minnesota Community Campaign,? also include photos from the Freedom Ride by Alison Quito Ziegler, excerpts from the documentary, ?My Journey Home: Pe?a Brothers and The New Americans: The Dominican Baseball Players,? and spoken word performances by Mariano Espinoza, Emmanuel Ortiz and Jamison Mahto.

Friday?s program starts at 7 p.m. at Intermedia Arts, 2822 Lyndale Ave. S., Minneapolis. Tickets are $7 ($4 for Intermedia Arts and Loft members and youth under 17).

The League of Women Voters will be available to register voters at Intermedia Arts from 5 to 7 p.m. and following the film program.
