The meeting will run from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, at Urban Research and Outreach Center, 2001 Plymouth Avenue N.
“Please join SEIU Local 26 and other community organizations as we continue the struggle for Martin Luther King’s dream and fight for justice for everyone,” the janitors’ union, Local 26, said in announcing the gathering.
“As many of you already know, one of the biggest janitorial companies in the Twin Cities, ABM Janitorial, was paying a group of African-American and African workers $2.50 less per hour than their other co-workers, and in one building, a supervisor told the janitors that he did want black janitors in the building.
“These workers have stood up to fight for justice and their workplace, by organizing together and filing charges of racial discrimination with the EEOC against their company, and will be coming together at an important community event this Thursday.”
The meeting is co-sponsored by SEIU Local 26 and TakeAction Minnesota.
