The annual Game Fair hunting and fishing expo in Anoka County is coming and, for the 12th year in a row, the Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation, AFL-CIO, and participating unions will host an informational booth.
The 35th annual Game Fair runs for two weekends, Friday-Sunday, Aug. 12-14, and Friday-Sunday, Aug. 19-21. Armstrong Kennel Ranch in Ramsey offers a beautiful outdoor setting of woods, hills and lakeshore. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday-Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
New this year: Union members who visit the MRLF booth are eligible for a drawing to win gift cards to Capra’s Outdoors, a locally-owned fishing, hunting and archery store located at 8565 Central Ave. NE in Blaine.
Each year, Game Fair draws tens of thousands of visitors. Stroll among hundreds of exhibitors, including commercial vendors selling hunting and fishing equipment. Visit nonprofit conservation organizations providing information about their issues and activities.
Take in a Game Fair favorite: watching the hunting dog competition and see which dogs make the best jump into the lake to retrieve a decoy.
Game Fair offers hands-on activities for all ages. Kids can try rifle shooting with instructors, sling shot, archery and laser shooting. A youth agility competition, with prizes awarded each day, is a new feature this year.
“This is the biggest show we’ll ever have, exhibit-wise,” said Game Fair organizer Chuck Delaney, boasting 300 exhibitors from 28 states. The exhibitors will offer many new products, from RVs to duck hunting gear.
The labor booth at Game Fair is part of the union member outreach work of the North Suburban Advisory Council of the Minneapolis Regional Labor Federation. Union members who volunteer for a three-hour shift at the booth will receive a free pass to Game Fair and free parking for the day.

“If you’re an outdoors person and you like hunting or fishing, it’s a great event,” said Miskowiec.
