Last-minute donations save Northland Poster Collective

In an e-mail sent Monday, members of the collective said they were "flabbergasted and awe-struck" by the response to their appeal for help. In May, the workers who own the 28-year-old organization said it would be forced to close due to an accumulated debt.

Supporters then mounted a fund drive that helped Northland secure $200,000 worth of financing, the group said in its e-mail, noting "we can retire our old debts and meet payroll! And we\’ll have capitalization left over to expand our outreach and introduce new product lines, too."

Large and small donations arrived from a variety of sources, members of the collective said. A matching grant from an anonymous donor spurred other contributions.

"In the coming weeks we will be working out our immediate plans for how to strengthen, expand and improve our work," the group said.

Northland has produced original art, posters, t-shirts, bumper stickers and many other items for a variety of union campaigns and other struggles. For updates on Northland\’s future, sign up on the group\’s website, www.northlandposter.com
