Members of Lodge 1833 are standing together and united on the informational picket line and rally to fight for the integrity of our jobs and future at Northwest Airlines, the union said. “We deserve a stake in the future of Northwest Airlines for the sacrifices we have made in the past and are asked to make in the future.”

In reaction to IAM members’ recent rejection of Northwest Airlines unacceptable concessions, the airline is petitioning the Bankruptcy Court on May 15 to terminate the union contract for 5,632 ground workers.

In bankruptcy court legally negotiated contracts can be abrogated, leaving contract employees at the will of whatever terms the company chooses to impose. This bankruptcy process has been used to force concessions at several airlines including United Airlines, US Airways, and now Northwest Airlines.
