May 12: You can help support Letter Carriers’ annual food drive to restock local foodshelves

The food drive is sponsored by the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC). In Minneapolis, NALC Branch 9 president Pam Donato said the local effort has set a goal of one million pounds of food.

With the financial support of local sponsors Cub Foods and WCCO television, letter carriers will be distributing one million bags along their Minnesota mail routes the week before May 12 to help boost the quantity of food collected. “The cities that have bags triple and quadruple what we can do,” Donato reported.

Parking lots at 13 Cub Foods stores in the Twin Cities will serve as collection centers where mail carriers — and the public — can drop off food May 12.

Donato said NALC is seeking help from other unions to recruit volunteers to help staff the Cub Foods collection points. Volunteers will be needed from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Unions volunteering will be able to display their union banner.
