Members of the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association could strike Northwest Airlines as early as 11:01 p.m. (CDT) Friday, Aug. 19, if no agreement is reached.
Marathon talks have continued this week in Washington, D.C., at the headquarters of the National Mediation Board, which oversees labor-management relations in the transportation industries.
On Wednesday, the union reported that management still had not budged from its demand to eliminate all the cleaner and custodian positions represented by AMFA. Other issues in the talks include cuts in wages and health care and major changes in the retirement plan. Some 5,000 mechanics, cleaners and custodians are represented by the union.
AMFA is posting regular negotiations updates at its website, www.amfanatl.org
