A celebration of his life will be held Tuesday, May 11, from 4-6 p.m. in Room 102 of the State Capitol. All are invited to stop by and pay respects to the McAfee family. If you arrive after 5 p.m., please enter the State Capitol at the top of the west side steps facing Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.

McAfee died when a blood clot obstructed his pulmonary artery, the union said.

“Mark had a huge heart and was an excellent advocate for AFSCME members. He adored his wife, Betsy, and found great joy in life,” AFSCME said in a statement posted on its website. “Mark was generous and caring to everyone and the AFSCME family will miss him dearly as a friend and lobbyist.”

McAfee was also the longtime chair of the JOBS NOW Coalition, which advocates for family-supporting wages.

“Along with his easy laugh and generous nature, we will remember his steadfast commitment to a decent life for the workers of Minnesota,” said Kris Jacobs, executive director of JOBS NOW.

In addition to the event at the Capitol, a celebration of McAfee’s life will be held on Tuesday May, 11, at 12:30 p.m. at the Cremation Society of MN, 7110 France Ave So., Edina 55435.

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the Wildlife Rehabilitation Center of Minnesota, 2530 Dale St. Roseville, MN 55113 and to the Minnesota Valley Humane Society, 1313 Highway 13 East, Burnsville, MN 55337.
