Fewer than 29,000 of these jobs are full-time, meaning job seekers outnumber full-time openings by nearly 6-to-1.
The survey provides no evidence of a shift to high-skill occupations, according to an analysis by the JOBS NOW Coalition. Only 43 percent of all openings require education or training beyond high school; and just 23 percent require a four-year college degree.
Other major statewide findings include:
• Forty-two percent of all openings are part-time. The median wage for these openings is $8.75 per hour.
• Of the five largest occupational groups, only one offers a median wage higher than $12 per hour.
• Nearly a quarter of all openings are in two large occupational groups — Sales and Food Preparation/Serving. The combined median wage for these groups of openings is $7.72 per hour.
• The median wage for all openings is $10.89 per hour — less than 50 cents higher than the inflation-adjusted minimum wage of $10.42 per hour.
For many Minnesota workers, $10.89 per hour is not enough to make ends meet. JOBS NOW’s Cost of Living research shows that in a Minnesota family of four with both parents working full-time, each worker must earn $14.03 per hour to meet basic needs.
