“Governor Pawlenty should remember that every project he vetoes means fewer good-paying jobs for Minnesotans,” Knutson said. “Family sustaining jobs not only provide Minnesotans with economic security, they generate much needed revenue to help close the state’s budget gap.”
The Minnesota AFL-CIO\'s number one priority this session is passage of a jobs infrastructure bonding bill of at least $1 billion.
Knutson went on to praise legislative leaders of both parties who worked tirelessly to craft legislation that will have a positive impact for all Minnesotans.
“We applaud Sen. Keith Langseth and Rep. Alice Hausman for taking bold and decisive action, working to overcome Governor Pawlenty’s obstruction, and delivering a jobs bill to Minnesotans,” Knutson added.
Along with an infrastructure bill, the Minnesota AFL-CIO has also called on the Governor and the Legislature to enact:
- A state wage subsidy in Minnesota of up to $12 per hour.
- The construction coalition jobs bill that leverages and stimulates private investment in commercial, industrial, energy-efficient retrofitting, and residential projects across the state.
- Tax fairness through a rate increase on the richest Minnesotans.
“Minnesota has been, and should always be a place where everyone has an opportunity to succeed in life,” added Knutson. “Our state policymakers have a choice this session whether to continue and grow those opportunities.”
The Minnesota AFL-CIO is made up of more than 1,000 affiliates representing over 300,000 working men and women throughout the state.
