“These past two months, we had record levels of participation,” reported Doug Flateau, executive director of Working Partnerships, which has hosted Fare for All Express once each month since April 2009 at the United Labor Centre. “For November, it was about 130. For December, it was about 170.”
Beginning in January, the monthly Fare for All Express sale will move from the United Labor Centre to the Sprinkler Fitters Local 417 Hall, 1404 Central Ave. N.E., Minneapolis (two blocks north of Broadway on Central). The first Fare for All Express pick-up at the Sprinkler Fitters Hall will be Friday, Jan. 15, from 3-5 p.m.
“They have a great space,” Flateau said. “It’s big. We should be able to move people through there efficiently.”
The onset of colder weather prompted the move from the United Labor Centre, where the sale took place outside in the parking lot. The move to the Sprinkler Fitters hall will allow the sale to take place indoors.
Fare for All Express grocery packages include fresh vegetables, fresh fruits, and frozen meats. The cost is typically $17.
Fare for All Express is a program of the Emergency Foodshelf Network. Fare for All Express emphasizes that the program is open to everyone and has no income requirements.
Fare for All Express accepts cash, EBT, credit cards or debit cards. The AFL-CIO community services program, Working Partnerships, hosts Fare for All Express. For more information, call 612-379-8130 ext. 112.
