Unions at Northwest Airlines will hold a "Rally to Protect Our Jobs" Wednesday, Dec. 7.
The rally starts at 4 p.m. at the Ramada Inn Airport (formerly the Thunderbird Hotel), 2300 E. American Blvd., near Highway 494 and 24th Ave. in Bloomington.
The event, sponsored by the International Association of Machinists, will include the Air Line Pilots, Flight Attendants, Transport Workers Union, the Aircraft Technical Support Association and the Northwest Airlines Meteorology Association. AMFA, the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association that has been on strike since Aug. 19, is not mentioned in the rally announcement.
The goal of the event is "to bring awareness of NWA management's ongoing plans to outsource careers and jobs of nearly every employee group on the property," the IAM said. "The Chapter 11 bankruptcy process is now being used to obtain through the courts what NWA management has long been unable to accomplish at the bargaining table."
The IAM is encouraging families to attend, but is asking that no signs be brought to the rally.
