Labor, progressive, faith and other organizations will hold a "People's Party" Thursday on Harriet Island in St. Paul to celebrate the accomplishments of the 2013 legislative session.
“After a decade of devastating cuts, budget gimmicks, and giveaways to corporate special interests, Governor Dayton and the DFL majority in the Legislature passed a budget that restores cuts, invests in jobs and education, and makes taxes fairer for middle class Minnesotans,” the Minnesota AFL-CIO said in announcing its co-sponsorship of the event.
“The ‘People’s Party’ will celebrate one of the most productive legislative sessions for working Minnesotans in a generation and the grassroots volunteers, leaders, and organizations that made them happen! This will be a casual, fun, family-friendly event.”
The party will run from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 20, at Harriet Island Pavilion, 200 Dr. Justus Ohage Blvd, in downtown St. Paul.
The event is co-sponsored by numerous groups, including Minnesota Coalition for the Homeless, Sierra Club, St. Paul Federation of Teachers, Land Stewardship Project, Headwaters Foundation for Justice, Education Minnesota, Service Employees International Union, OutFront Minnesota, Communications Workers of America, NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota, Minnesotans for a Fair Economy, Neighborhoods Organizing for Change, Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, TakeAction Minnesota, Minnesota AFL-CIO, AFSCME Council 5, Jewish Community Action, Line Break Media and the Minnesota Building & Construction Trades Council.
