The rally, sponsored by the Invest in Minnesota coalition, will be at 10 a.m. on the south steps of the state Capitol.
“Invest in Minnesota is leading the charge to remind the public and lawmakers that the potential state government shutdown is a symptom of a larger problem—the lack of fairly raised revenue in a solution to budget shortfalls,” organizers said.
From 9 to 11 p.m., members of the state’s largest public employee unions will hold a vigil.
“Members of MAPE and AFSCME, as well as their allies will gather for a vigil at the State Capitol steps,” the unions said. “Public employees facing layoffs will describe the services that will be lost on July 1, 2011, and how it will affect Minnesotans.”
If the Legislature and Governor Mark Dayton fail to reach a budget agreement, most state services will close Friday, directly affecting thousands of state employees and the people who rely on public services and having a ripple effect on the entire state.
