Rally Wednesday to support janitors

The rally will be Wednesday, May 13, at noon in the parking lot at 8201 Norman Center Drive, Bloomington.

“Normandale Lakes is the state’s largest office park, and its tenants include many of the financial companies that helped create the recession, and now have gotten bailout money, like AIG, Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch, GMAC, UBS, TIAA CREF and Wells Fargo,” organizers of the rally said.

“In the midst of the recession this office park actually is building a whole NEW tower, with some of the highest rent per square foot in the Twin Cities! In the face of all this concentrated wealth, Harvard, the cleaning company at Normandale Lakes, chose to slash costs by firing 13 janitors who have as many as 12 years experience at the building, and replace them with new workers who simply cost less.

“Thirteen stable families in our community are now left without health care, without jobs, and face losing their homes.”
