The event runs from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Sheet Metal Workers Local 10 hall, 1681 Cope Ave., Maplewood.
The music will be donated by the Musicians Union. Food and prizes also will be donated.
Games will be featured at this year\'s event, including a cribbage tournament. Prizes for the main raffle include a large screen television, a portable DVD player, a $200 cash prize as well as smaller cash prizes.
Funds raised will support the political and education work of the State Retirees Council, said Council president Martha Johnson. Johnson is a former state employee and former assistant director of AFSCME Council 6.
"We\'ll be doing some political education on issues this year, especially on how the pension system is falling apart," Johnson said.
Part of the State Retirees Council\'s ongoing education effort includes producing "Minnesota\'s Voices of Experience," a public affairs program on public access television (Metro Cable 6, Suburban Community Channel 15, Valley Access Channel 16).
The Minnesota State Retirees Council includes 235 affiliated retiree clubs and unions. Johnson said an estimated 400,000 AFL-CIO retirees live in Minnesota.
