Ribbon-cutting planned for new State Fair labor pavilion

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was scheduled to take place Thursday at 10 a.m.

The new pavilion, located at the corner of Dan Patch and Cooper, features green building techniques and is the first LEED-certified structure at the fairgrounds.

The striking $1 million facility, built by McGough Construction, also aims to showcase today\’s unions. It replaces a dated structure built in the 1950s. The pavilion was funded by a number of unions from around the state.

Opening day festivities included music by Tim Mahoney, union members demonstrating their trades, and tours of the new building highlighting its green features.

A videographer will invite visitors to share what they expect from the next U.S. president. Prize drawings will take place at noon, 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. for $25 gas cards and $25 grocery cards.

The Minnesota AFL-CIO state fair pavilion will be open during the following hours:

• Opening Day, Thursday, Aug. 21, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• Daily, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 1, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
