On Saturday, for the 14th consecutive year, union Letter Carriers will collect food donations along their routes as part of the nation's largest one-day food drive.
Last year, members of National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 28 collected more than 80 tons of food in St. Paul and its suburbs. Nationwide, Letter Carriers collected a record 71.3 million pounds of donated food.
Your role is simple: Place non-perishable food items in a bag near your mailbox on the morning of Saturday, May 13. Your Letter Carrier will pick up the food and take it to collection points, where it will be delivered to Second Harvest Minnesota for distribution to local food shelves.
"Every bit helps, whether it's one can of food or a whole bag," said Louie Spies, who helps coordinate the drive for Branch 28. "No contribution is too big, no contribution is too small."
