The 15-minute rally at 425 Portland Ave., Minneapolis, will include brief remarks by:
• Janet Moore, co-chair of the Newspaper Guild unit at the Star Tribune
• Steve Hunter, Minnesota AFL-CIO secretary-treasurer
• Eliot Seide, AFSCME Council 5 executive director
• Todd Dahlstrom, SEIU Local 26 lead organizer
Negotiators at the Star Tribune unit of the Newspaper Guild are fighting for a fair contract that includes an increase in pay and benefits for members who have not received a raise in nearly six years.
Members of the Guild, which represents about 250 workers in the newsroom, promotions and circulation departments, also took pay cuts ranging from 8 percent to 14 percent to help save the company while it was in bankruptcy in 2009.
Now that the Star Tribune has stabilized financially, workers said they would like their sacrifices to be rewarded and respected.
