State Senate committee to hold hearings on soaring heating prices

Low-wage earners and people on fixed incomes will be especially hard hit by soaring prices for natural gas and heating oil this winter. State Senator Ellen Anderson, DFL-St. Paul, is holding special hearings of the Jobs, Energy & Community Development Committee to gather information about this impending crisis.

Hearings will be held:
Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 1 p.m. at Alexandria Technical College;
Thursday, Nov. 17, at 1 p.m. in Room 15 of the state Capitol; and
Monday, Nov. 21, at 1 p.m. at Riverland Community College in Albert Lea.

All hearings are open to the public and citizen testimony is invited. “We want to hear from experts in the field of energy conservation and energy assistance,” Anderson said, “and from people who have trouble meeting their heating bills. The testimony we get will help us refine our list of suggestions and put together a bill that can be passed.”

Heating prices are expected to go up by 40 to 50 percent this winter in Minnesota.
