Workers at the University of Minnesota will hold a potluck fundraiser Jan. 21 to raise money to help people in regions hardest hit by the Asian tsunami.
A group of union members in the Medical/Health Sciences area will hold the potluck Friday, Jan. 21, from noon to 1 p.m. in B-646 of the Mayo Memorial Building, on the East Bank of the Minneapolis campus.
Donations will go to the DPP FSP Kahutindo (Wood and Forestry Workers Union) in the Aceh and North Sumatra regions ? two of the worst-affected areas, organizer Jeff Pilacinski said.
"We've all been hearing the horrifying reports coming out of Southeast Asia after the Dec. 26 tsunami," he said. "As people struggle to rebuild their lives in the devastated areas, we must answer the call for help and stand in solidarity with our fellow workers.
"All workers and union members are invited to attend. This gathering offers a chance for us to strengthen the bond between our unions (Teamster, GradTRAC/UE, AFSCME) here at the University and abroad."
If you can bring a dish to share, contact Pilacinski at (612) 626-3223.
