MOCA needed help to re-roof its new offices at 4604 Chicago Ave. S. in Minneapolis. Roofing consultant Rick Grobvsky, whose wife volunteers at MOCA, contacted Local 96.
"We went over and looked at their roof and decided it was something we could handle," said Pete Jaworksi, Local 96 business representative.
A group of 28 Roofers Local 96 volunteers, including 21 apprentices, worked Oct. 12 and 13 to get the job done, giving up a Saturday day off or turning down other work.
"The members like volunteering and helping other people out," Jaworski said.
"All our contractors deserve a pat on the back, too," he said. "Without them, we couldn\'t have got it done."
Some of the contractors assisting the project included: Peterson Brothers Roofing, which paid for the building permit; Firestone Products, which donated all the roofing materials; and John A. Dalsin & Son, which brought in a crane and operator.
