Proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the Disaster Relief Member Assistance Fund established by the Northeast Area Labor Council, AFL-CIO, based in Duluth. Checks can be made out to “NEALC/Disaster Relief Member Assistance Fund.”
Local 1189 formed two years ago as a result of a merger between St. Paul-based UFCW Local 789 and Duluth-based UFCW Local 1116. The union represents nearly 12,000 workers in retail, health care, meatpacking, manufacturing and food processing in Minnesota, western Wisconsin and North Dakota.
