Led by the Minnesota AFL-CIO, unions across Minnesota plan four “Days of Action” as part of the Labor 2016 political effort. The goal is to turn out union members and their families to vote in the Nov. 8 elections.
The first event takes place this Wednesday, Aug. 17, from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. at several locations around the state, including Albert Lea, Blaine, Duluth, Faribault, Grand Rapids, St. Cloud, St. Paul and Willmar.
Other Days of Action are planned for Sept. 8, Oct. 1, and Oct. 15.
“Join your union brothers and sisters for doorknocking in support of Labor-endorsed candidates,” the Minnesota AFL-CIO said in announcing the events.
Stakes are high for working people in November, with voters choosing the next U.S. president and members of Congress. In Minnesota, the only statewide race is for Minnesota Supreme Court, but voters will elect members of the U.S. House of Representatives, state Legislature and local government and school boards.
