UNITE HERE, five hotels reach contract settlements

The new, four-year agreements cover 700-800 workers and provide for wage increases, for continued 100 percent employer-paid health insurance, and for continued employer contributions to the workers’ pension plan. The five hotels include Crowne Plaza Northstar, the Hilton, the Marquette Inn, the Millenium, and the Sheraton South.

“They all took the same terms,” reported Local 17 President Nancy Goldman. Despite the sluggish economy, “we didn’t give up anything and to their credit they didn’t ask us to give up anything,” Goldman said.

The union anticipates a fight, however, with the Crowne Plaza West in Bloomington, one of three hotels which split off from the hotel group’s negotiations. At Crowne Plaza West, Goldman said, “they’ve proposed all kinds of concessions.”
