The contract covers 1,200 workers at Honeywell plants in Coon Rapids, Golden Valley, Minneapolis and Plymouth.
Negotiations still were underway Jan. 28 when the Golden Valley plant came under a national and local media spotlight during a visit there by U.S. Secretary of the Treasury Timothy Geithner. The contract, covering 400 workers at the plant, was due to expire Feb. 1. With the help of a mediator, negotiations continued the next day and into the early morning hours of Jan. 30, when a settlement was reached.
Workers met Jan. 31 and voted 668 to 248 to accept the contract. The contract offers no wage increase the first year, 2 percent the second year, and 2-1/2 percent the third year.
“We’re happy with it,” said Milt Nordmeyer, secretary-treasurer for Local 1145. “Everybody expected to go backwards. We didn’t. We’re thrilled.”
In addition providing wage increases, the new contract maintained other benefits and contract language, Nordmeyer said.
