Workers to march in inaugural parade

The marchers will come from a wide range of AFL-CIO and Change to Win unions, plus the independent National Education Association.

The union platoons in the parade recognize the key role unionists and their families played in Obama\’s election. Unionists and their families were at least 21% o the electorate, exit polls showed. Unionists voted Obama by a 67%-30% margin.

"Millions of people attending the inauguration will see giant banners calling for passage of the Employee Free Choice Act hanging on buildings, including CWA
headquarters and other union buildings in the heart of inaugural activities," the Communications Workers said. "For the first time in inaugural parade history, an
all-union float will carry union members as part of the American Workers Contingent."

"From…those who build our roads and bridges, teach our children, take care of the sick and elderly, transport our goods, process our food, and keep our nation running, working families are excited to seize this moment, and revive the American Dream," said Change to Win Chair Anna Burger. The float, to be Teamsters-driven, will have a theme of "Honoring America\’s Workers" and accompanying union marchers will carry a banner with the slogan "America\’s Workers: United for Change."
