Workshop focuses on Latinos in the workplace

In the last decade, local labor unions have found that an increasing portion of their membership is made up of Spanish-speaking workers from Latin America. Who are the immigrants working at roofing and construction companies, restaurants, hotels, and food-processing plants throughout Minnesota and why have they come?

Learn these answers as well as insight into the complex labyrinth that is immigration law, and the basic employment rights of Minnesota immigrant workers, documented or not, at “Latinos on the Job: A Workshop for Union Reps” sponsored by the Resource Center of the Americas.

The workshop will be run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 24, at the Resource Center, 3019 Minnehaha Ave., Minneapolis. Cost is $95 and includes lunch.

The staff of Centro de Derechos Laborales (Workers Rights Center, a program of the Resource Center) will be joined by local experts in addressing topics such as population changes, cultural differences and immigration law.
