Wright County Labor Council teams with Faith in Action for community service day

Volunteers will gather from 8:30-10 a.m. at Sturges Park in Buffalo, then go to an assigned work project, undertaking repairs, maintenance and fall clean-up at the homes of elderly and disabled residents.

Union members will be the lead volunteer at each work site (union members should arrive at 8 a.m.).

Volunteers will be treated to a free picnic from 12:30-2 p.m. at Sturges Park, hosted by United Food and Commercial Workers Local 653.

“We’re excited to start something in Wright County as a community service project that shows citizens and the community that labor people are there to participate at all levels and give back to the community as well,” said Bill Spartz, Monticello, member of the Wright County Labor Council and business representative for UFCW Local 653.

Faith in Action’s Allison Moser, coordinator of volunteer services, said the partnership with the Wright County Labor Council “has been a real positive. They sought us out. It’s just been a good fit.”

For labor union volunteers and community volunteers, the day will bring “a good chance to intermingle,” Moser said.
